Zipline has been delivering medical products via autonomous drones in Rwanda for years. In 2026, a national expansion was announced, including the first urban deployment of Platform 2 in Africa. A small delivery device descends on a cable to a designated spot. Research on the older network shows time savings and improved availability of medical products; these results should not automatically be attributed to the new Platform 2.
AI factor
Software plans flights, processes sensor data and controls the drone and delivery device. Healthcare providers and logistics teams decide which products are sent and when; aviation oversight and local procedures remain decisive for safe deployment.
