Sleep Cycle – Cough Radar

AI identifies cough sounds during sleep and aggregates anonymized trends as an additional signal for respiratory infections.

About

Sleep Cycle uses sound analysis to detect possible cough episodes during sleep. Aggregated, anonymized trends could provide public health services with an early warning signal of changes in respiratory symptoms. The UK's UK Health Security Agency is working with the company to investigate whether such app data can be used alongside existing surveillance. This benefit is still being studied and is not a proven alarm system.

AI factor

A model can automatically classify large numbers of nightly sound clips and make changes in the pattern visible. Epidemiologists must then determine whether a rise actually indicates illness and compare it with clinical and laboratory data.
