Scan Bike (Amsterdam)
Amsterdam's Scan Bike uses image recognition to locate heavy objects near vulnerable bridges and quay walls for inspection by a supervisor.
About
Amsterdam's Scan Bike photographs the public space. The system recognizes containers, construction cabins and scaffolding in places where extra weight poses a risk to old bridges and quays. Amsterdam has used the technology weekly since 2025 in various city districts. Each report is assessed by a supervisor; the system does not issue fines. Images are anonymized and unnecessary data is removed.
AI factor
Image recognition identifies suspicious objects in many street images and links them to the vulnerability of the location. A supervisor determines whether on-site investigation or enforcement is needed.
