Samotics SAM4
AI from Leiden that tries to detect faults in pumps and other hard-to-reach machines early.
About
SAM4 measures electrical signals in the switch cabinet and looks for deviations that may indicate wear, blockages, or misaligned parts. This means a sensor no longer needs to be placed on a submerged or remote pump. Southern Water reports that a trial found 63 faults and helped prevent an estimated £5 million in damage and fines. The water company is now rolling out the technology across hundreds of locations; technicians review the warnings and carry out the maintenance.
AI factor
The model learns the normal electrical pattern of a machine and classifies deviations. Maintenance teams decide whether and when a pump is shut down or repaired.
