Paige Prostate Detect scans digital microscope images of prostate biopsies for patterns consistent with cancer. The system flags suspicious areas as an additional check alongside the pathologist's normal assessment. The FDA granted the system De Novo clearance in 2021 as the first AI product for this use in digital pathology. The pathologist makes the final diagnosis.
AI factor
A fully digital biopsy contains a very large amount of image information. The model can systematically scan the entire preparation and draw attention to small suspicious areas.
