Overstory combines satellite and aerial imagery with machine learning to map trees and other vegetation around power grids. Energy companies use the insights to target inspections and pruning to locations where the risk of falling trees or fire is greatest. Overstory reports up to 48 percent fewer tree-related outages across three customers, based on its own practical study. The grid operator determines which work is actually carried out.
