OceanOneK
Deep-sea robot that lets researchers explore fragile sites at great depth via cameras, haptic arms, and shared autonomy.
About
OceanOneK is a humanoid underwater robot developed by Stanford and tested to nearly a kilometer deep. An operator looks through the cameras and feels the forces on the robot's arms through haptic controls. Autonomous features support stability, movement, and manipulation, allowing archaeologists and marine researchers to reach sites too deep or too dangerous for divers.
AI factor
The robot takes over low-level navigation and stabilization while a human directs the research task and can act carefully through tactile feedback. This combination extends reach without removing human expertise from the loop.
