Khanmigo is built into Khan Academy's teaching materials and responds as a tutor or teaching assistant. Instead of just giving a final answer, the system asks questions, discusses reasoning, and can help teachers with lesson preparation. An independent study of 69 students found no additional learning gain compared to Google Search or paper; Khan Academy reports internal short-term gains on the next independent exercise. Independent evidence for broad, long-term learning gains remains limited, and the answers must remain verifiable.
AI factor
A language model can probe each student directly and adapt its explanation to the conversation. The fixed learning environment and teacher provide structure and control that a general chatbot does not have by itself.
