Digital Green is building FarmerChat for farmers and agricultural extension workers in India, Kenya, and other countries. The assistant answers questions about crops, pests, weather, and markets based on curated agricultural knowledge, and can also process voice and images. IFPRI and partners are explicitly researching how answers can become more accurate, more local, and fairer; the system is support, not an infallible agronomist.
AI factor
The farmer describes his situation and decides what to implement. A language model searches controlled sources and formulates an answer in accessible language; agricultural experts improve the knowledge base, assess errors, and determine when human advice is needed.
