Carbon Intensity API from NESO
An open machine-learning forecast predicts when and where British electricity has the lowest CO2 intensity.
About
The UK National Energy System Operator publishes a per-region forecast of the power mix and CO2 emissions per kilowatt-hour, more than four days ahead. Developers, consumers, and smart devices can use the open API to shift flexible electricity use—such as charging or heating—to a cleaner moment. The forecast covers emissions from power generation and remains an estimate; environmental benefit only arises when users or systems actually adjust their consumption.
AI factor
An ensemble of supervised-learning models forecasts demand and generation per energy source every half hour. A grid model translates this into regional CO2 intensity; people and devices then decide whether their deferrable consumption can be shifted.
